Asbury Park is the coolest small town in America. This little beach town exemplifies the cultural diversity, creative energy, and unparalleled natural beauty. Asbury Park has gained global recognition when the iconic Bruce Springsteen released his debut album, Greetings From Asbury Park. Since then, the town has seen its ups and downs but is currently back on track to be one of the best beach towns in the world.
One of the best things about Asbury Park? The FOOD! Here is your food guide to this cool town.
1. The Speakeatery
I've read so much about this place ( + saw them on Insider) and wondered if it was worth it or just too hyped up. 100% worth it. Completely unpretentious and as laid back as it gets. The menu is full of approachable, yet creative sandwiches.
Must Try: The General! Crispy General Tso's Chicken, Broccoli Ginger Slaw, Sticky Rice Buns!
2. MOGO Korean Fusion Tacos
This is such an unexpected find. They graciously pack your tacos with all the goods. It's a BYOB so perfect for date night! Also - they have incredible vegan options!
Must Try: Fish Tacos - Lightly floured cod with pickled onion salad topped with spicy mayo
3. Johnny Mac's House of Spirits
A very unique bar that has a really fun vibe. They serve FREE PIZZA with every drink order - ALL DAY EVERDAY! Oh yeah, and they serve free omlettes on Sunday with any bloody mary or mimosa. Yes, you read that correctly. What more could you ask for from a bar.
Must Try: Bud Light & FREE Pizza (duh!)
This trendy Italian spot is a must stop if you're in Asbury Park. The food is fantasic, the drink options are plenty, and the decor is so fun & unique! You can't go to PORTA without snapping a pic in front of their iconic EAT, DRINK, BE HONEST doors.
Must Try: The Onion
First, this space is so cool. It has such an airy industrial feel with fun decor. I seriously was obsessed with their restaurant length exposed brick wall. It definitely made you feel like you were in some trendy bar in NYC and not at the beach in Jersey.
Okay on to the incredible food. You can totally see and taste how fresh the ingredients they are using. They make it known that they pickle, ferment, preserve, bake, and make most of their dairy in house. How awesome is that! What was cool to find was how extensive their vegan & vegetarian options were. Definitely telling all my vegan friends about this place!
Must Try: Green "Eggs and Ham" pizza
6. Bond Street Bar
If you're looking for cheap eats, cheap drinks, and great times with good friends, then this is the place to go! Bond Street Bar has a simple bar menu, anchored by an interesting variety of burgers & grilled cheese sandwiches. The prices are unbeatable, but just note that it is cash only.
Must Try: Patty Melt
I recently discovered Hoagitos and oh. em. gee. I am so happy our paths crossed. They're so innovative with their flavor combinations and are known to put their own twist onto classic sandwiches.
They make a sammich that hits the spot, what else is there to say? But don't be surprised if there is a bit of a wait. Trust me, it is so worth it.
Must try: Southern Comfort
If you want to feel like you're in NYC then this is the place for you. The menu offers traditional and creative choices, both healthy and indulgent. I would not be doing my job if I didn't mention they pancakes. These pancakes are made using the owner Amy's family recipe, and man are they delicious!
Must Try: Any of their pancakes!
9. Langosta Lounge
The perfect spot to dine beachfront. Do note, that because you are dining (basically) on the beach, the menu prices reflect that. This place definitely has a Jersey Shore summer vibe with their vacation inspired cuisine.
Must Try: Shrimp Haliíimaile
10. Asbury Festhalle & Beirgarten
Asbury Festhalle and Biergarten is a great local hangout with a lot of good Austrian-German European atmosphere. Lots of beers/beverages to choose from, tasty European style eats, and a rooftop that is great to chill at. Hit them early in the evening during the summer season to avoid the lines though.
Must Try: Kielbasa and Beer
